POSSIBLE INITIATIVES TO IMPROVE THE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM OF WEST BENGAL: WITH A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO RURAL AREAS

Abstract

The library plays an important role in the intellectual, historical heritage and culture of a nation. As our society and human needs are continuously changing with time, to adapt this, it is crucial for a library to be evolved with time as it serve dynamic communities, and societal needs. improving a public library is necessary to ensure that it continues to fulfill its mission of providing free and equitable access to information, promoting literacy and lifelong learning, fostering community engagement, supporting economic development, preserving cultural heritage, and adapting to technological advances. The purpose of the study is to critically review the present status of public library system of West Bengal and possible initiatives to improve with a special reference to rural areas.
