Abstract

Urban areas are especially vulnerable to corruption because of their dense populations and intricate political structures. A major contributing factor to corruption in metropolitan areas is the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a small number of people or organisations. Shobhaa De, in her book Strange Obsession, other than portraying her usual themes of sexuality, lust and gender inequality also incorporates the issue of corruption. Minx, Inspector General of Police’s bratty and only daughter abuses the power that his father holds without even him knowing it, in the pursuit of her strange obsession and fixation on Amrita, a gorgeous girl who has arrived from Delhi to Bombay and aspires to be a supermodel.
