Abstract

This paper presents an in-depth analysis of gender disparities in education and employment in Ravangla, a small town in South Sikkim, India. Utilizing a mix of primary and secondary data, the study reveals significant educational attainment among women up to graduation level, yet a marked decline in higher education and professional fields. The findings indicate that societal norms, limited access to higher education institutions, and employment opportunities significantly contribute to these disparities. The paper further discusses the cultural and economic factors influencing these trends and proposes targeted recommendations to bridge the gender gap. These recommendations include the establishment of local educational institutions, skill development programs, and community engagement initiatives. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the gender dynamics in Ravangla, offering a framework for policymakers and stakeholders to foster gender equality in education and employment in similar socio-cultural contexts.
