Abstract

Every human being has some rights by the virtue of his or her being born as a human. These rights are inherent to all human beings all over the world. In 1948 The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December, to protect the rights of all human beings. Apart from these, every nation tries to grant some basic rights to its citizens. India is also no exception to it. It is however, very sad that, though our Constitution guarantees equal rights to all its citizens, the women of India are debarred from exercising their rights due to various reasons. In this paper, an attempt has been made to understand the rights ensured under UDHR and the Indian Constitution for women and what actually is the reality in India.
