Abstract

In 2011, the UNHRC endorsed the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). The UNGPs explain the duties and responsibilities of both the State and businesses in dealing with negative business-related human rights impacts as per the guideline of the UNGPs, National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (2018) established India’s commitments towards realization of human rights and promotion of socially responsible businesses. The National Action Plan provides an overview of India’s legal framework setting out the State’s duty to protect human rights, the corporate responsibility to respect human rights and access to remedy against business-related human rights violations.
