Abstract

The role of teachers is inevitable in the process of promotion, preservation, transmission and inculcation of the national identity amongst the young generations who are the pillars of any nation. Teachers serve as social engineers who work together with the pupils in and outside any educational institution through formal as well as informal education. Further, teachers are shaped into dedicated professionals who then possess the requisite skills, values and character through professional teacher education programs. The role of such teacher education programs is to create a dedicated and proficient workforce who can lead the nation through examples and who are ready to devote their life towards the well-being of the nation by serving the societies in ways that preserve the culture and identity of the people. Therefore, in this paper, the writers have emphasized the role of teacher education in particular and teachers as a whole in the nation’s building. The paper also highlights the concepts of teacher education and nation-building along with certain issues in teacher education that hinder achieving nation’s building.
