AN OVERVIEW OF TEACHER LEADERSHIP IN THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR

Abstract

Each and every organization, including educational sectors, business sectors, government agencies need efficient leaders, who can support in guiding the proper way (Siena Heights University, 2022). In the sector of education, teacher leadership plays an important role in educational reform. According to Katzenmeyer and Moller (2001), teacher leadership can be defined as the action of teachers to “ lead within and beyond the classroom, identify with and contribute to a community of teacher learners and leaders, and influence others toward improved educational practice; and accept responsibility for achieving the outcomes of that leadership” (Espinosa and Gonzalez, 2023). Some important leadership styles for teachers are transformational leadership style, democratic leadership style, empathetic leadership style, exemplar leadership style etc. In the current chapter, the concept and styles of teacher leadership, role of teacher leaders in the educational sector, challenges in teacher leadership and the ways to overcome it will be discussed.
