Abstract

This article looks into the connection of leadership and sustainable education, highlighting the central role of teacher leadership in promoting environmentally-conscious, socially-just, and economically viable societies. It begins by defining leadership and sustainable development, emphasizing the holistic approach required to balance economic growth, environmental conservation, and social equity. Focusing on Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - Quality Education, it underscores the importance of education as a catalyst for sustainable development. The article explores the characteristics of effective teacher leadership for sustainable education, across professional, personal, and administrative realms. These include curriculum integration, experiential learning, pedagogical expertise, collaboration, and empathy, among others. Through embodying these traits, teacher leaders can advocate for and implement sustainable education practices, fostering a generation of global citizens equipped with the skills and mindset to address complex challenges. The conclusion underscores the transformative potential of teacher leadership in building a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.
