Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the development of computer machines that can perform tasks requiring human intelligence. It involves the development of algorithms and computational models that enable machines to simulate cognitive functions including learning, reasoning, problem solving, perception and language understanding. The scope of AI is vast covering industries like healthcare, finance, education and manufacturing. Special education is one such area which can be revolutionized using AI. Through personalized learning experiences, AI technologies can adapt to individual learning styles, preferences and abilities providing a more inclusive educational environment. AI powered tools can assess students’ progress and comprehension levels instantaneously, allowing educators to adjust instructional strategies accordingly. Moreover, AI facilitates accessibility by offering assistive technologies that accommodate various disabilities. Furthermore, AI promotes inclusivity by fostering collaboration among educators, students and families. By analyzing data from multiple sources, including student performance, attendance records, and behavior patterns, AI systems can generate insights that support collaborative decision making and facilitate early intervention strategies. However, while AI presents numerous opportunities for enhancing special education, it also raises ethical and privacy concerns. It is essential to ensure that AI technologies are implemented responsibly respecting students’ rights to privacy and autonomy while promoting equity and accessibility for all learners. The aim of this paper is to focus on the potential of AI in transforming special education and how can it empower students with disabilities to achieve their full potential and thrive in an inclusive learning environment.
