Teacher training for sustainable development is essential for equipping educators with the knowledge and skills needed to foster a sustainable future. This training integrates sustainability principles into the curriculum, promotes critical thinking, and encourages responsible actions among pupil-teachers. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India emphasizes holistic and multidisciplinary education, aligning with the goals of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). NEP 2020 advocates for experiential learning, critical thinking, and environmental awareness, all vital for effective teacher training in sustainability. Effective training programs are crucial for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning. These programs prepare educators to address sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary approaches and active learning methodologies. They also emphasize cultivating values and attitudes such as empathy, responsibility and environmental respect. Despite challenges like resource constraints and resistance to change, continuous professional development and leveraging technology can enhance teacher training programs. Through comprehensive training, educators become agents of change, inspiring the next generation to adopt sustainable lifestyles and contribute to a more sustainable world. This article explores the dimensions of teacher training for sustainable development, highlighting best practices, challenges, and educational impacts, aligned with NEP 2020's vision.Metrics
