Abstract

In 21st century our earth is facing such a trouble. Only one way to get rid of that is to create a sustainable world. This is an approach where man and environment can co-exist without hampering each other. In this study, mainly Environmental Sustainability is taken into consideration. In this study the researcher made an attempt to find out the Knowledge and Attitude of student- teachers towards Environmental Sustainability in Teacher Education curriculum of West Bengal with respect to some categorical variables. Here the researcher used two standardized tool – Knowledge towards Environmental Sustainability (KES) and Taj Environmental Attitude Scale (TEAS). These tools were administered on 200 B.Ed student-teachers through simple random probability sampling from eight Teachers Training colleges from two universities (Baba Saheb Ambedkar Education University erstwhile WBUTTEPA and University of Burdwan). The study reveals that there is no significant difference between mean scores of Knowledge and Attitude between two universities and between male and female student- teachers in general. But, there found significant difference between Govt. Govt. aided and private colleges. Teachers’ Training colleges should maintain their organizational climate eco-friendly. Teachers play an important role in imparting knowledge. If environmental sustainability is properly implemented among student- teachers, then we can step forward in building sustainable society.
