Abstract

The first significant international environmental initiative began in 1972 with the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm. This conference emphasized the link between environment and development, addressing major environmental issues and making 109 decisions on the topic. In 1980, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature introduced the concept of sustainable development, which requires innovative ideas and techniques. The United Nations should collaborate with governments, the private sector, development organizations, and civil society organizations to support universities and research institutions in areas such as education, agriculture, physical development, ICT, and health systems. This effort should be backed by strong legal frameworks and strict regulation enforcement. The UN must consider different national capacities and respect national policies in promoting sustainable development. This paper uses documentary analysis to examine the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), its criticism, and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4.
