Abstract

The chapter is entitled ‘Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Research in Education’. The methodical gathering and examination of facts and information pertaining to the topic of education is known as educational research. Numerous techniques and facets of education, such as student learning, interaction, instructional strategies, teacher preparation, and classroom dynamics, may be the subject of research. Most academics in education concur that rigorous and methodical research is necessary. There is, however, little consensus over precise standards, requirements, and study methodologies. Consequently, there has been doubt about the importance and caliber of educational research. Experimental research improves the caliber of educational research. The author did a critical analysis to present concepts of the chapter. The major objectives of the chapter were, to understand characteristics of experimental research design, to explain classification of experimental design, to describe a pre experimental design in social science research, to understand the different types of pre experimental designs, to discuss main advantage and disadvantage of pre experimental designs, to describe a true experimental design in social science research, to understand the different types of true experimental designs, to discuss main advantage and disadvantage of true experimental designs, to describe a quasi experimental design in social science research, to understand the different types of quasi experimental designs, to discuss main advantage and disadvantage of quasi experimental designs, to elucidate importance of experimental design, and to expound merits of experimental design. The major areas covered in the chapter were, introduction to experimental design, characteristics of Experimental Research Design, classification of Experimental Design, importance of Experimental Design, and Merits of Experimental Design.
