FOSTERING INCLUSIVE EDUCATION THROUGH ‘HUBS OF LEARNING’: A COLLABORATIVE EDUCATIONAL PARADIGM BY GOVT. OF WEST BENGAL IN THE LIGHT OF NEP

The drive towards inclusive learning and teaching, aligned with the tenets of the New Education Policy (NEP), underscores the significance of accommodating diverse student needs and nurturing a sense of belonging for all learners. This chapter explores the transformative journey towards inclusive education, epitomized by the concept of ‘Hubs of Learning,’ aimed at fostering collaboration, eliminating barriers, and enriching educational experiences for students across academic levels. Keeping in mind the tenets of NEP, West Bengal Government’s Higher Education Department, in accordance with the State Education Policy of 2023, has initiated the establishment of composite clusters comprising schools, degree colleges, technical, and professional institutions. By dint of ‘Hubs of Learning through Cluster Approach Programme,’ collaborative learning, resource sharing, and mutual support among educational entities are encouraged. This chapter discusses how central to this initiative is the formation of composite clusters, where select institutions are designated as ‘Hubs,’ offering mentorship and academic support to nearby ‘Spoke’ institutions. Horizontal and vertical collaboration among schools and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) facilitates resource sharing, infrastructure development, and enhanced educational standards. Shared facilities, research projects, cultural activities, and workshops are integral components of this collaborative model, aimed at fostering academic growth and development. Hubs of Learning herald a paradigm shift towards collaborative, inclusive, and innovative educational practices. By harnessing collective potential and fostering mutual trust among stakeholders, this initiative holds promise for creating a more equitable and empowering learning environment, nurturing learners equipped to address the challenges of the 21st century.Metrics
