Abstract

This chapter explores the integral role of yogic practices—specifically asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (breath control)—in enhancing cognitive development across the lifespan. Rooted in ancient Indian philosophy and increasingly supported by modern neuroscience, these practices offer a holistic framework to improve attention, memory, emotional regulation, and executive function. The chapter delves into the historical context, physiological mechanisms, and subtle energetic effects of these practices, while also highlighting their relevance in education and therapy. Through a synthesis of classical texts and empirical research, it advocates for the integration of yoga into mainstream health and educational systems to address contemporary cognitive challenges.
