ENHANCING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT THROUGH HOLISTIC PRACTICES

Student engagement is a critical predictor of academic success, retention, and overall well-being. However, traditional educational models often prioritize cognitive development, potentially neglecting the interconnectedness of students' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions. This chapter explores the transformative potential of holistic educational practices in fostering deeper and more meaningful student engagement. It argues that by addressing the whole person—mind, body, emotions, and spirit—educators can create learning environments where students feel more connected, motivated, present, and invested in their learning journey. The chapter examines various holistic approaches, including mindfulness and contemplative pedagogy, movement and embodied learning, social-emotional learning (SEL), nature connection, and arts integration.Metrics
