A REVIEW ON CENTURY OF GLOBAL WARMING IMPACTS AS A GLOBAL ISSUE IN THE KUMAUN HIMALAYA, INDIA

Abstract

The Himalayas and glaciers are dynamic in nature, which is a key indicator of global warming and as well climate change. The decrease of glaciers and snow cover in mass, volume, area, length, increasing glacier lakes, frequent glacier breaking and landslides due to heavy rain, cloudburst and glacial lake burst are considered as clear signals of global warming. Kumaun Himalaya is also known as Uttarakhand/ Central Himalaya of the Indian Himalayan region. The observations of global warming indicator over the Kumaun Himalaya that there is a continuous retreat of glaciers, shifting upward snow line, increasing numbers of glacial lakes, glacial lake burst, flash flood and cloudburst events with different rates and frequency. In this study, the results of a detailed historical reviewing of literature and data analysis on above mentioned factors. Present study shows continuous negative impact on Kumaun Himalaya by continue rising global temperature.
