CRIMINOLOGY AND SOCIAL CONTROL THEORIES

Social control theory, becoming an important criminological perspective, is developed to explain that people are naturally attracted to violating social norms, and only through social ties delimit them from committing crimes (Alises et al., 2022).These theories, as opposed to, for example, strain or learning theories that focus on why individuals commit crimes, ask why most of us adhere to the rules laid out for us (Alduraywish, 2021). The key concept is that strong social ties –attachment, commitment, involvement and belief– serve as a buffer against delinquency.Published
