ORGANIZED CRIME AND LEGAL CONTROL MECHANISMS

The concept of organised crime with its intricate structure, developed system and society wide influence has been a continuous challenge for the law and order administration in different parts of the world, and India is definitely not an exception (Travaglino and Drury, 2020). Moreover, the development of transnational organized crime over the last several decades, including trafficking in drugs or human beings, and financial crimes, has further exacerbated this picture and made it obligatory to create a strong and coordinated legal system at the national and international level (Khan et al., 2024; Kleemans and Koppen, 2020). Because organized crime generally needs more than one person to cooperate with each other for a duration of time to be sustainable (Kleemans and Koppen, 2020). The adoption of amendments to Indian criminal legislation constitutes an important milestone in the ongoing process of fighting organized crime in India, providing an opportunity to make the current legal instruments work more effectively to respond to new challenges and to improve law enforcement and judicial operations. The launch of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita signals a major reform in Indian criminal justice, by aiming to replace the 100-year-old Indian Penal Code and come up with a better approach to dealing with crime (Naik, 2024).The efficacy of criminal law in curbing cybercrime has been cast in doubt even with the passage of cybercrime laws in numerous countries (B, 2022).India’s legal system is subject to amendments that respond to challenges sparked by misuse of cyber technology (Annappa, 2022).This recast legal framework has been an acknowledgment of the fact that specialized regulation and stricture is the need of the day to effectively combat the multi-fanged monster that organized crime is (Moolchandani, 2024).Published
