Abstract

A moral dilemma lays between two fundamental rights as ‘right to life’ and ‘right to death’. We conceive ‘Right to life’ as a natural right, accepting which all the species of the environment are struggling for their survival. Controversial quires raise towards the phrase ‘right to death’. The term ‘Euthanasia’ has been introduced in this regard. ‘Euthanasia’ may be defined as mercy killing, easy death, good death etc. which is one of the major social issues for all concern, as deep emotion is involved in it. Many respected fields such as medical ethics, care ethics, law, religion, spirituality, constitution etc. are widely associated with this concept. Thus, it is one of the most debatable topics in today’s contemporary society. Euthanasia is not a process of killing patients, just allowing those critically ill patients to end their life by their own wishes, as they wish to die peacefully when survival is hardly possible for them. Different opinions have been raised in this context. The moto of this write up is to explore the actual meaning of the term ‘Euthanasia’ by comparing with its different dimensions, recent status of the constitution of India towards this burning issue and its future prospect in dignified death.
