AUTHORIZATION OF WOMEN STATUS THROUGH SELF-HELP GROUPS

Women authorization and gender parity have become topics of supreme importance in recent times, because gender disparity and its socio-economic and cultural dimensions are all universal in the third world as well as in the advanced world. However, in the third world the problem of gender inequality is more intensely associated with economic disempowerment of women. Therefore, several initiatives being-taken up in third world countries for the economic empowerment of women to reduce gender inequality. Among these initiatives, the Self-Help Group (SHG) which is speeded all over the world. Therefore, the third world has become the projecting one. The concept of SHG facilitates the principle ‘by the women, of the women and for the women’.
Women participation in Self Help Groups have obviously created remarkable significance upon the life pattern and style of poor women and have authorized them at various levels not only as individuals but also as members of the family members of the community and the society as whole. “Self Help Group” (SHGs) is a tool to eliminate poverty and improve women entrepreneurship and monetary support in India. The Objective of this paper is to examine the socio-economic background of the women beneficiaries and analyze the income, expenditure and savings pattern of the Self-Help Groups members. Moreover, the most important thing is to find out the benefits and problems faced by the members in Self Help Groups. For this purpose, the study conducted for one hundred respondents of the SHG members was selected from various Self-Help Group’s in my area that is a word no 27 and 29 of Burdwan Municipality (20 SHGs).
