Abstract

Prawn farming in India is a lucrative and profitable business that can yield tremendous profits for farmers if done properly. It has been forecast that the prawn industry in India will grow 11% every year until 2028. The three farming methods employed by Indian farmers are extensive, semi-intensive and intensive methods of cultivation, which differ depending on the nature of the pond. The prawn industry in India is vulnerable to diseases and aquafeed availability. The COVID-19 pandemic had severely impacted it. In order to improve the industry, the Government of India has taken several steps. This article aims to explore the prawn market industry, explore the different farming methods, check on the vulnerability of the market, and at the same time look for remedial measures and government policies implemented for the betterment of the industry.
