The Global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aims at ending Poverty in all its forms as stated in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1. Globally many steps have been taken to reduce poverty and attain SDG 1 of “No Poverty”. Poverty eradication measures are not new to India. Since India’s Independence many steps have been taken to eradicate or reduce poverty. One such measure is the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) initiated in the year 2005. The present study tries to measure the efficacy of the scheme implemented by the Government of India in arresting poverty as an anti-poverty measure. For the purpose of the study the district of Birbhum was selected in the state of West Bengal.
