Abstract

This paper attempts to explore the structure of University Finance and to examine the extent of internal resource generation of University of Kerala. This study is primarily based on secondary data from the Annual Accounts and the Budget Estimates of selected university. The University of Kerala is the selected university for the study to get information on the revenue and expenditure. The University of Kerala is the oldest university by tradition. Basically the study deals with a macro level issue, but it takes only one university to get an in-depth understanding of the area. For this,a ten-year data is taken, from 2008-2009 to 2017-2018.The major findings of the paper suggest that the main component of the income flow to the University of Kerala is non-plan grants for maintenance purpose from the state government and from internal sources. The University of Kerala relies heavily on state government grants to meet their growing expenses.
