Abstract

Since the last century, water has become a contentious issue and a source of acute conflicts among different nations. There are 263 river basins in 145 countries, where two fifths of the world's population lives. Many countries are dependent on river water that flows in from outside their own national territory. With a growing human population and changing lifestyles, the demand for fresh water and climatic variability make water supply and demand problematic and uncertain. Growing water scarcity and climate variability have led to a growing global interest in the topic of water allocation. This research paper is an attempt to highlight the international principles of sharing transboundry water allocation doctrines.
