Abstract

The notion of the "New Woman" arose as a feminist philosophy throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, signifying a societal change towards acknowledging and promoting women's rights. This study examines the "New Woman" narratives present in Preeti Shenoy's novels, specifically The Secret Wish List (2012), Tea for Two and A Piece of Cake (2012), It Happens for A Reason (2018), and The Rule Breakers (2018). The study examines the themes of humiliation, prejudice, identity crisis, and empowerment. The process entails a carefully chosen analysis of pertinent excerpts from these works, taking into account their thematic significance and temporal elements. The research seeks to deepen comprehension of how Shenoy's characters adeptly negotiate societal obstacles, emerging as empowered individuals who defy conventional standards. This investigation adds to the wider discussion on the experiences of the "New Woman," providing insight into subtle depictions found in modern literature.
