LANGUAGE AND GENDER: MAINSTREAMING AND THE PERSEVERANCE OF PATRIARCHY

Abstract

Language and gender have been two aspects of any society, community and country. These aspects have been progressive since the progress of society. Since ages, Literature has been an eminent medium of expressing thoughts and ideas with artistic and cultural values. Ideas and experience are embedded in literature with the assistance of language. The reflective and dialogical notion of literature invites multiple approaches in order to evolve various theories and criticism. In addition, society and culture offer attributes to male and female which lead them into the category of masculine and feminine. Due to this process, we can put these two categories into the notion of gender. In more general words, it can be said that sex is a natural aspect of nature and gender is a cultural one.
