Abstract

Alice Melsenior Walker (1944) is one of the most celebrated and recognized contemporary African-American black woman poet, essayist, novelist and activist. In most of her works Alice Walker focuses on the power-division between men and women within the black community and the problems which the women of color have to face especially in the form of physical, sexual and psychological violence in both public and private spheres of their everyday lives. Although, extremely interested in the problems related to the whole of the black community, Alice Walker pays particular attention to the lives of black women.
