Abstract

The Shyam Gadh Fort is one of the strongest forts in Nirmal. It was built in the 18th Century. It is situated at the south side of the Nirmal town. It has south faced entrance gate which is fitted into the strong wall strategically in the right-angle position. It also has the west faced postern. The fort wall is built with dressed stones. The wall width is 17ft. to 33ft. the length is 780m. The parapet wall is made of brick and lime. There are 41 embrasures slits in the parapet. These are designed for the huge cannons to be fired at the attacking armies. The parapet of the fort is rebuilt in brickwork for musket fire pierced by numerous loopholes. There are two halls inside the fort. These were used for soldier's accommodation.
