FLIPPED CLASSROOM MODEL IN INDIA: A PARADIGM SHIFT IN INTERACTIVE LEARNING

Interactive or ‘inter-active’ learning encourages interaction or ‘inter-action’ between two active elements of education- student and teacher. Teacher-student equality, student-student equality and democracy constitute the basic foundation of interactive classroom. In this era of student-centric education, instead of being a passive recipient of one way lecture, students need to become an active participant in two-way communication. Flipped classroom model is one of the post-pandemic pedagogical styles of blended learning that can boost up classroom interaction by flipping or reversing traditional chalk and talk method. Flipped classroom model is learner-centric model that increases student engagement by shifting passive lecture material to at-home setting, thereby freeing the class time for interactive learning activities. The article describes the concept of interactive learning as well as concept of flipped classroom model. There are also discussions about different models of flipped classroom and how it differs from traditional classroom. In addition, the article focuses on some advantages and drawbacks of flipped classroom in India. It also suggests certain roles of teacher for making interactive learning more effective through flipped classroom in Indian context. Lastly, it concludes about present status of flipped classroom in Indian higher education system. Secondary sources like different articles, research papers, webpages. have been reviewed for collecting relevant data.Metrics
