ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE USE OF CHATGPT IN EDUCATION

Abstract

Information and Communication Technology plays an essential role in all areas of our life. ChatGPT is one of the important tools of Information and Communication Technology. The word “ChatGPT” stands for “Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer” which was developed by an artificial intelligence research company “OpenAI” on 30th November, 2022 (Mittal, S., 2023; Nam, B.H. Bai, Q., 2023). The use of ChatGPT has become popular in the field of education. However, “the emergence of ChatGPT started a heated debate in the educational sphere. While some experts see the bot as an unprecedented opportunity for cheating, others believe its potential as an educational tool outweighs the risks” (Study Corgi, 2023). In the current chapter, the concept of ChatGPT, the ethical concerns of its use in the field of education and some suggestions for its responsible use will be discussed.
