Abstract

These days, open source operating systems and software are widely used in educational institutions as the commercial software may require pricey hardware or software in addition to having a constrained license. To assist the teaching of mathematics, a variety of open source programmes that emphasize the use of computer algebra, charting, and array-oriented packages for educational purposes have been produced. Open source software can help to create course materials, especially in institutions without adequate computer software assistance. From SchoolForge, a variety of open source software can be downloaded and installed for educational use. As we all know, when analytical solution of a mathematical problem is impossible then we can use a suitable numerical method to find its approximate solution. On the view of these facts, this article discuss about some open source software for numerical solutions like Octave and Scilab. Also the limitations and authenticity of these software in numerical method have been discussed. The majority of researchers have talked about open source software's robustness difficulties. This study demonstrates the reliability of Octave and Scilab for numerical methods.
