Abstract

ducation is the act of learning something and passing it on to others. It's about gaining knowledge, abilities, values, opinions and habits. As the time passed, education system has changed a lot. Historically, when it came to education, it shifted around different time periods like the Vedic, Islamic and British eras. In the Vedic Period Gurukul Education System was existed. At that time students were handed over to their teacher. It was like a boarding school. Students learn from their teacher by only listening and remembering it. This was called “Shruti” and “Smriti”. In Islamic Period Vocational Education was emerged and it brought Islamic influence in education. But When the British Raj and Colonial system came into existence; the use of the English language was expanded. The English language becomes the language for day to day use. This period formed the base for higher education during the 20th century. After independence many educational institutions were set up by the government. From government school to IITs and IIMs, many premier institutions were set up which can ensure that students can receive proper education without going abroad. Much later, private institutions came into the picture which offered quality education with exemplary facilities.
