Abstract

Education is very much needed for becoming a responsible citizen with moral nobility and power of reason because the smooth functioning of democracy depends upon citizens' awareness. So, quality and compulsory education should be given to all citizens. A successful education system needs 3A i.e., affordability, accessibility, and availability of educational resources which includes resource persons, use of ICT, infrastructure, communication system, abolishing of gender discrimination., absence of nepotism, and so on. Plato, Aristotle, Rousseau, Mill, and many political thinkers advocated for the education of the masses. Another issue is that nation nation-building process of third-world countries i.e., developing countries faced many challenges since the very beginning and governments of these newly independent countries have been implementing many policies in this regard. India is not an exception. For developing sound education several initiatives have been taken and forming policies is one of them. Such educational policies are NPE 1968, NPE 1986, POA 1992, National Policies for Education ICT 2012, and so on. In 2009, the Government of India implemented the Right to Education Act which was enshrined in the constitution under Article 21A. It ensures free and compulsory education for children. The 4th Sustainable Development Goal demands inclusive and equitable quality education for all. In 2020 GOI adopted The New Education Policy. Here qualitative research method has been used to shape this article. This article is based on secondary resources. This article will focus on these educational policies and constitutional provisions on education. The main objectives are to know about the academic policies and constitutional provisions in India in the pre-independence and post-independence periods.
